Executive Director
Organization Overview
National Sorghum Producers (NSP) is the national trade association for the sorghum industry and represents U.S. sorghum farmers nationwide. The member-focused organization serves as the voice of the sorghum industry and works through education, legislative and regulatory issues to lead positive change for sorghum farmers. NSP is headquartered in Lubbock, Texas, with members in 30 states and affiliate organizations in seven states throughout the U.S.
General Responsibilities:
The general responsibilities of the Executive Director (ED) are to manage, directly or indirectly, all operations of the National Sorghum Producers (NSP), on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on a day-to-day basis. The Executive Director reports to the CEO and works closely with him and the Board to be sure he/she is managing NSP consistent with the wishes of the Board of Directors of NSP. The Executive Director will provide leadership and strategic guidance to the CEO and staff and ensure the programs specified by the Board are carried out within budget guidelines. All NSP non grant and subsidiary staff report to the Executive Director for day-to-day activities and questions. The Executive Director will perform personnel reviews for all those NSP positions. This on-site position is located in Lubbock, Texas.
Specific Responsibilities:
As some of his/her specific responsibilities, he/she will:
- Supervise and support NSP staff on a day-to-day basis:
- Assisting them in planning efforts
- Making sure they implement plans and remain on schedule
- Brainstorming with them and offering advice when they encounter difficulty
- Ensure that the organization is moving in the same direction
- Plan agenda topics for staff meetings and lead these meetings in conjunction with the CEO.
- Help organize and lead NSP Board of Directors meetings in conjunction with the CEO.
- Manage the annual planning process in conjunction with the CEO.
- Manage the annual budgeting process in conjunction with the CEO.
- Identify areas where staff members, Board members and work team leaders would benefit from training and arrange to provide it.
- Work closely with the CEO on all office and staff related issues.
- Maintain accurate personnel, financial, and contract files.
- Work with financial services providers to provide comprehensive financial accounting for the NSP organization and provide accurate and timely reporting.
- Work with all program staff to ensure coordination between their respective activities and duties.
- Maintain office calendar of activities and coordinate staff activities.
- Have oversight and accountability of all programs and activities.
- Manage funding and ensure adequate financial resources for the NSP organization.
- Serve as a leader to NSP and provide leadership on specific topics.
- Work closely with management staff on all office and staff related issues.
- Assure coordination between all sorghum industry programs.
- Lead the day-to-day Legislative and Regulatory activities with the CEO.
- Lead the NSP policy processes with the CEO.
- Lead the recruitment/renewal process for members.
- Assist when subject matter demands for subsidiary entities and the USDA Climate Smart Grant.
- Serve as a liaison between the sorghum industry and the NSP board of directors and staff.
- Maintain extensive knowledge of the industry and key issues that may arise.
- Provide strategic guidance to the CEO and board of directors and staff.
- Act as spokesperson for NSP.
- Carry out other responsibilities as delegated by the CEO and NSP board of directors.
